Being a Black Woman In America

The most disrespected, unprotected and neglected person in America is a black woman! We have to constantly protect ourselves from everyone, especially black men! YES I SAID IT! While being expected to protect everyone in our lives. As black women, we are so loyal to our black brothers and rarely tear them down. However, a black man is quick to tear us down, but praise white/Asian women for things they copied from black culture.

The narrative that a black woman is strong is killing me! I’m tired of having to take on everything without having emotions because I would be labeled the “angry black woman.” We are passionate people, but get told we’re too loud and aggressive. No one ever cares what a black woman says, but let a woman of A lighter complexion or another race say something and it’s “oh! We are taking this to court! #metoo

Black women have historically been viewed as promiscuous, which made getting legal recourse for rape virtually impossible. raping a black woman wasn’t even against the law in the United States until after the Civil War. That was less than 150 years ago. Not that long! Let that sink in.

We are 3 times more likely to die during child birth in hospitals than white women because doctors don’t believe us when we complain about pain. Hence why so many women of color are starting to give birth at home. When I used to work in corporate America, i used to worry that my colleagues didn’t believe i deserved my position and thought i got it mainly because of affirmative action.

Little black girls get kidnapped all the time and no one hears of it. However, the Elizabeth Smart’s of the world gets national news.

Serena William wears an approved tennis outfit and gets disqualified from matches because it looks too sexy on her body. Kim Kardasian wears practically nothing on social media and gets praised.

Don’t just think it’s black men who are fighting for human rights. Black woman have been fighting for their rights as well. You just don’t hear much about it because well we’re women and if you look at history, women have never been treated fairly. Two battles we have to deal with in America being a woman and being black.
