Being Vegan in Fuzhou, China | My First Impression

I have been told that Veganism and vegetarianism isn’t a real concept in China. It’s more of a westernized thing. Eating out has been one of the hardest things to do out here as a vegan. Before moving here, I assumed most Asian countries just ate rice, veggies and fish, but China loves their pork and other meats. Worst part, if you don’t know the language and don’t order your food properly, the chances of them putting in a non-vegan item in your dish is high! Hell, I just found out that my favorite peanut noodles sometimes is cooked in animal fat. So, from now on, I will be cooking most of my food. If I go out to eat with friends, I just have to find tips from other fellow vegans in my WeChat groups Or ask someone who knows the language pretty well to order for me. My fellow teachers at York English have been a gem helping navigate through the difficult menus.  York English does have a video about this. I think I need to re-watch it! I don’t know if it will help though. I’ll keep you updated on this issue of mine!
